Wisconsin City Declares Nov. 14 to 20 as Transgender Awareness Week

The Eau Claire City Council in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, is attempting to take steps to bringing more awareness to the transgender community and declared Nov. 14 through Nov. 20 as Transgender Awareness Week.

County board member Zoe Roberts, a transgender woman and activist, was at present while the proclamation was read.

The city council said Nov. 20 will be designated as Transgender Day of Remembrance. Roberts said the declaration is an accomplishment for both her and the community.

“It is a vigil to honor the deaths of those people who were murdered during the year that are transgender,” Roberts said, “Most of those people that are murdered are transgender women of color and this year so far the majority of them have been from 17 to 30.”
