#PaintItForward was founded in 2016 by Chicago artists, Lady J and Michael Bonilla. It is a space where artists can come together and showcase their work. The proceeds go to future events to encourage Chicago youth to continue being creative.
The second #PaintItForward took place on April 21st at 3455 W. North Ave, just several blocks west of Humboldt Park. The space was open, minimalistic, nicely lit, and aesthetically pleasing - a perfect location for showcasing art and listening to spoken word, short poetry, and music. A five dollar donation guaranteed entry and your choice of wine or beer.
The event showcased work from multiple artists such as Kawaii Suga, Lou, Lady J, Diana Alaras, Karmina Sanchez, Zane Anderson, and Stephanie Marsh. The music and open mic was open from 6 pm - 8 pm and featured Tatiana Hazel, CMII, Jesse Tarot, Lady J, and DJ Chuck Magic.
After the open mic ended, the audience was free to mingle, look at and purchase artwork, speak to the artists, and converse amongst friends and strangers.
On the #PaintItForward GoFund me page, Lady J writes, "In honor of embarking on my 23rd year of life, I am humbly asking for any help in my initiative to support the arts for the YOUTH and community in CHICAGO. The dollars donated here, along with the help of talented comrades involved in the city, will go towards planning and hosting galleries for local artists to showcase their work, with proceeds from the ART shows/PARTIES to go to other organizations helping to provide creative spaces for all creatures around the city."
